Anthony Edwards Has Missed 10 of 12 Games With 'Runner's Knee' — Wolves Running Out of Time
Anthony Edwards has missed 10 of the last 12 games with patellofemoral pain syndrome — commonly known as 'runner's knee.' There's no structural damage, which is the good news. The bad news is he simply can't stay on the floor.
Edwards went through a pregame workout on Wednesday night, and coach Chris Finch said the hope is that Ant can get a game or two under his belt before the regular season ends Sunday. But 'hope' isn't exactly a battle plan when you're a team fighting for playoff positioning.
The comparisons to Steph Curry's similar knee issue are floating around, and for good reason — Curry dealt with the same diagnosis and managed to play through it, but not without careful load management. Edwards' situation feels different. He's 24 years old, averaging 28.9 points per game in 60 games this season, shooting 48.9% from the field and 39.8% from three. When he plays, he's one of the most dangerous scorers in the league.
The Timberwolves got Jaden McDaniels back, but losing Edwards for this long during the stretch run is a massive blow. With two games left, Minnesota needs their franchise player on the court — or they're heading into the postseason with serious questions about his availability.
