Cade Cunningham Returns From Collapsed Lung, Posts Double-Double as Pistons Lock Up East 1-Seed
Cade Cunningham suffered a collapsed lung on March 19 against the Wizards. Eleven games later, he was back on the court Wednesday, starting for the Pistons against Milwaukee and posting 13 points and 10 assists in 26 controlled minutes. Detroit won 137-111.
The Pistons went 8-3 without their All-Star point guard, proof of the depth they've built around him. But Cunningham's return immediately upgraded the offense — his floor vision and pick-and-roll command were exactly what this team looked like it was missing. He's averaging 24.5 points, 9.9 assists, and 5.6 rebounds in 61 games this season, numbers that had him in the MVP conversation before the injury.
At 57-22, Detroit has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and won the Central Division for the first time in 18 years. The Pistons haven't won a playoff series since the 2007-08 season. Getting Cunningham healthy and game-ready before April 18 is the only thing that matters now.
