Cooper Flagg Makes History With 51 and 45-Point Weekend

Cooper Flagg just had the most absurd weekend any rookie has had in decades. On Friday, the 19-year-old Mavericks guard dropped 51 points against the Orlando Magic — becoming the first teenager in NBA history to score 50 in a game. Brandon Jennings held the previous teen scoring record with 55, but he was 20 when he did it. Flagg obliterated that bar.

Then on Sunday, he followed it up with 45 points and a near triple-double in a win over the Lakers. That makes Flagg only the second rookie ever with multiple 45-point games, joining Michael Jordan. The last rookie to score 45+ in consecutive games? Walt Bellamy. In 1962.

The Rookie of the Year race has completely flipped. Flagg is now the favorite at -250, having passed Kon Knueppel (+180) in the odds. Carmelo Anthony publicly endorsed Flagg for the award. The numbers are historic, the moment is massive, and the kid from Maine isn't slowing down.
