Cooper Flagg dropped 51 on Friday
Cooper Flagg is rewriting the rookie record books. On Friday, the 19-year-old Mavericks forward poured in 51 points against the Magic — becoming the first teenager in NBA history to score 50 in a game. At 19 years and 103 days, he shattered Brandon Jennings' previous record as the youngest player to reach 50. Then on Sunday, he followed it up with 45 against the Lakers.
That makes Flagg the only rookie since Michael Jordan to have multiple 45-point games in a season. Let that sink in.
The 51-point night almost didn't happen — Flagg was pulled with 45 points, but assistant coach Frank Vogel (filling in for Jason Kidd) told him it was just a defensive rest. Vogel called timeout to get Flagg back in with 3:22 left, and a minute later, history was made. Flagg is now a -250 favorite for Rookie of the Year, with Kon Knueppel at +180. At this point, it's not a race — it's a coronation.
