Cooper Flagg Dropped 96 Points in Two Games — Only Wilt Did That as a Rookie
Cooper Flagg just did something only Wilt Chamberlain has done. Over a two-game stretch this weekend, the Mavericks rookie poured in 96 points — 51 on Friday night (the highest total ever by an NBA teenager) and 45 on Sunday in a win over the Lakers with a near triple-double.
Before the weekend, Charlotte's Kon Knueppel was the ROTY favorite at -300 on DraftKings. After Flagg's explosion, the odds flipped: Flagg is now -250, Knueppel +180. Flagg is one of only six players to score at least 45 points three times as a rookie — and the other five are all Hall of Famers: Bellamy, Chamberlain, Jordan, Monroe, and Alcindor.
The irony? Flagg did all of this while the Mavs lost one of the games (116-103 to the Clippers, where Kawhi dropped 34). But the ROTY race is officially Flagg's to lose now. He's averaging 22.4 points on the season and has been the best player on the floor in 4 of his last 5 games.
