Joel Embiid Diagnosed With Appendicitis, Undergoes Surgery in Houston

Joel Embiid's cursed season just added another chapter to its misery index. The 76ers star was diagnosed with appendicitis and underwent emergency surgery in Houston on Wednesday afternoon, per Shams Charania.

This is the latest in a never-ending series of health setbacks for Embiid, who has battled knee injuries, plantar fasciitis, and now a burst appendix over the course of his career. Philadelphia was already eliminated from playoff contention, but this cements what has been one of the most frustrating seasons in recent memory for Sixers fans.

At some point, the conversation around Embiid shifts from 'what if he stays healthy' to 'he's never going to stay healthy.'
