Joel Embiid left a Houston hospital one day after emergency appendix surgery.
Joel Embiid has been discharged from a Houston hospital one day after undergoing emergency surgery for appendicitis. The 76ers confirmed he is heading back to Philadelphia, but offered no timeline for his return to basketball activities.
This is just the latest chapter in what has become the most injury-plagued career of any superstar in NBA history. Embiid has now officially missed more games than he has played as a professional. The appendicitis struck while the Sixers are fighting for their playoff lives — Philadelphia is currently in the play-in picture, and the tournament begins April 14.
The Sixers have two regular season games remaining, then potentially a win-or-go-home play-in game. Whether Embiid can make it back for any of that is completely unknown. Tim MacMahon called him "the unluckiest superstar of this generation," and at this point it's hard to argue.
