'It Feels Like a Funeral': Giannis and the Bucks Are Done
The Milwaukee Bucks' season from hell is officially over — but the fallout is just getting started.
Shams Charania's ESPN exposé painted a picture of a franchise in freefall. The Bucks finished 31-51, their worst record since 2015-16, and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade. A team source told ESPN the locker room "felt like a funeral" after a January loss that set the tone for the rest of the season.
The breaking point came in mid-March when Giannis hyperextended his left knee. He says he was healthy enough to return. The Bucks said he wasn't and shut him down. Giannis called it "a slap in my face." The NBPA got involved, and the NBA launched a formal investigation into whether Milwaukee was tanking. Multiple teams — the Timberwolves, Heat, and Warriors — made serious trade offers at the deadline, but the Bucks rejected Miami's Tyler Herro package, betting better offers would come in the summer.
Now everyone in the league expects Giannis to be traded this offseason. The Knicks are believed to be his preferred destination, though Golden State and Miami remain in the mix. After 12 years, two MVPs, and a championship, one of the greatest Bucks ever is almost certainly playing his last games in Milwaukee.
