Luka Doncic Seeking Stem Cell Treatment in Europe to Expedite Playoff Return
Luka Doncic is done waiting around. After suffering a Grade 2 left hamstring strain in Thursday's blowout loss to Oklahoma City, the Lakers superstar has flown to Spain to receive specialized medical treatment — including what doctors believe are cell-based therapies not currently legal in the United States.
The move has split the medical community. Renowned sports doctor Brian Sutterer called the decision "disrespectful" to the Lakers medical staff, arguing there's no "literature-proven" treatment in Europe that would accelerate recovery. But Doncic's camp isn't listening — his agent Bill Duffy confirmed the star is "motivated to return during the playoffs."
Here's why this matters: the Lakers' championship odds cratered from 30-1 to 100-1 within 20 minutes of the injury announcement. LeBron called it "a shot to the heart." With Austin Reaves also out with an oblique strain, the Lakers' playoff hopes now rest on experimental European medicine and a ticking clock. The playoffs start April 18.
