MRI drama
This one's bizarre even by NBA standards. JJ Redick dropped a bombshell after the Lakers' latest loss, revealing that the Dallas Mavericks' medical staff scanned "the wrong area" when conducting Austin Reaves' MRI. "We were explicit in what was supposed to be scanned, but they scanned the wrong area," Redick said.
The Mavericks fired back, disputing Redick's claim entirely. It's now a he-said-they-said between two organizations, and Austin Reaves is the one paying the price — out 4-6 weeks with a Grade 2 oblique strain that went initially undiagnosed because of the imaging mix-up.
The whole situation adds another layer of frustration for a Lakers team already reeling from Luka Dončić's hamstring injury. Whether it was a communication breakdown or a genuine medical error, it doesn't change the outcome: Reaves is done for the regular season and likely a chunk of the playoffs too. Not exactly the way you want to enter the postseason.
