NBA Investigation Reveals Giannis Declined Bucks Workouts

The Giannis-Bucks situation just got messier.

The NBA's ongoing investigation into Milwaukee's handling of Antetokounmpo's playing status revealed a key detail: the Bucks scheduled Giannis for three-on-three scrimmages last week as part of his return-to-play process, and he declined to participate. There's also a disagreement about whether the team requested he join a group workout earlier this week.

Giannis hasn't played since leaving a March 15 win over Indiana with a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise. He told The Athletic and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he's healthy enough to play — and that being told he can't is "a slap in my face." The Bucks, eliminated from the playoffs on March 28, clearly have different priorities.

Read between the lines: Milwaukee is protecting a $275 million asset. Giannis becomes eligible for a four-year max extension in October, and if he doesn't sign, a trade becomes inevitable. Doc Rivers, whose job is already in serious jeopardy (95-100 record), may not be around to see how this plays out. The Bucks are a franchise at a crossroads.
