Pistons Clinch No. 1 Seed in the East — First Time Since 2007
Two years ago, the Detroit Pistons set the NBA record for futility with 28 consecutive losses. Now they own the best record in the Eastern Conference at 57-21 and have clinched home court advantage throughout the East playoffs for the first time since the 2006-07 season. Let that sink in.
They did it Saturday night with a dominant 116-93 win over the 76ers, and they did it without franchise cornerstone Cade Cunningham. Tobias Harris led the way with 19 points while Daniss Jenkins added 16 points and 14 assists. The bench was signaling No. 1 with their fingers before the final buzzer even sounded. ESPN called them "gritty" and honestly that undersells it — this is one of the greatest organizational turnarounds in NBA history.
Detroit is a legitimate championship contender and nobody outside of Michigan saw this coming. The Pistons have depth, defense, and the kind of team chemistry that makes coaches cry tears of joy. Whether Cade returns for the playoffs or not, this team believes. And if you're sleeping on the Pistons in the East bracket, you haven't been paying attention.
