Tatum Returns to MSG for First Time Since Achilles Tear — Drops 24/13/8 in Loss
Jayson Tatum returned to the building that changed his life on Thursday night — and he looked like he belonged. In his first game at Madison Square Garden since rupturing his Achilles tendon there on May 12, 2025, Tatum put up 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists in a 112-106 loss to the New York Knicks.
"Last time I played there, it was a traumatic experience for me," Tatum said before the game. But afterward, the tone shifted: "Today was important for me. I'm glad I did it. I feel a lot better." The MSG crowd gave him a warm ovation during introductions — more cheers than boos.
The Celtics played without Jaylen Brown (Achilles tendinitis), and the Knicks took full advantage. Josh Hart erupted for 15 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, and Jalen Brunson added 25 points and 10 assists. The Knicks (52-28) pulled within two games of Boston (54-26) for the No. 2 seed with two games left for both teams.
