Wembanyama Wins Magic Johnson Award — At 22, Youngest Since KD

Victor Wembanyama is 22 years old and already rewriting records on both ends of the court. Now he's doing it at the podium, too.

The Professional Basketball Writers Association named Wembanyama the 2025-26 Magic Johnson Award winner — given to the player who best combines on-court excellence with cooperation and grace in dealing with media and fans. He's the first Spur to ever win it, and the youngest honoree since Kevin Durant claimed it at 22 back in 2011.

The numbers this season were absurd: 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and a league-leading 3.1 blocks per game. He helped the Spurs go 30-4 once he got fully healthy in February, finishing 62-20 and as the No. 2 seed in the West. But what separates Wemby isn't just the stats — it's that he shows up to the mic after every game, answers any question from any reporter, and even accommodates the two French journalists who relocated to San Antonio specifically to cover him. PBWA president Howard Beck put it simply: "He is giving of himself, amiable and patient." That's rare at 22. That's even rarer when you're the most hyped prospect since LeBron.
