Wemby's MRI came back clean — no structural damage to the rib.

The San Antonio Spurs can exhale. Victor Wembanyama's MRI came back clean — no structural damage to the rib he injured during the win over the 76ers, the game that gave the Spurs their 60th victory of the season. He is listed as day-to-day with a rib contusion but is doubtful for Wednesday's matchup against Portland.

The bigger picture is what matters here. Wembanyama needs to log at least 20 minutes in one of the Spurs' final three regular season games to maintain his eligibility for MVP and All-NBA honors. Missing all three would be a devastating blow to what has been a historic sophomore campaign.

The Spurs showed they can win without him — Stephon Castle posted a triple-double (19/10/13) against Philly, and De'Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, and Keldon Johnson all scored in double figures. But this is Wemby's team, and San Antonio needs him healthy for what could be a deep playoff run as the West's No. 2 seed.
