Wembanyama left Spurs-76ers with a rib contusion after colliding with Paul George

Victor Wembanyama's MVP-caliber season hit a scary speed bump Monday night in San Antonio's 115-102 win over the 76ers. The 7-foot-5 star collided with Paul George near half court with 10:47 left in the second quarter and immediately looked uncomfortable. He finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks in just 15 minutes before being ruled out for the second half with a left rib contusion.

Here's what makes this tricky: Wembanyama needs to play at least 20 minutes in one of the Spurs' remaining three regular season games to maintain eligibility for postseason awards. He played 15:40 tonight — enough to count as one of his two allowed sub-20-minute exceptions. But if this rib keeps him out, the MVP conversation gets complicated fast.

Coach Mitch Johnson said he'd heard "nothing" about the severity post-game. The Spurs can afford to be cautious — they're locked into the playoffs — but the timing couldn't be worse with the postseason a week away.
