Plum Called Clark 'Selfish' in Team USA Camp. Wednesday Night, She Has to Guard Her.

During Team USA training camp in Miami, Kelsey Plum watched Caitlin Clark pull up for a deep three when a pass was right there, and she couldn't let it go. "Selfish," Plum deadpanned, still laughing. Clark fired back: "You yell at me for not passing, then you can barely catch it." They both grinned. It was a great camp moment. Wednesday night at Crypto.com Arena, there's no grinning.

The Indiana Fever and the Los Angeles Sparks tip off Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. ET on USA Network, and both teams come in at 0-1 and looking for answers. Plum has already made clear she is not here to be anyone's sidekick — she dropped 27 points in LA's season opener against Las Vegas before the Sparks fell 105-78. Clark, meanwhile, is still searching for her three-point shot. She has connected on 9 of 58 three-point attempts over her last eight WNBA games, and Wednesday will be her first road test of the year.

The USA camp chemistry between Clark and Plum was legitimately compelling. Their friendship has developed through national team rosters, with Clark finding a new running mate in Plum after Aliyah Boston stepped back from international play. It was not always smooth — Plum drew attention at the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game with a pointed comment about Clark's teammates skipping a player meeting, though she later called it a bad joke. By Miami camp, they looked like co-stars still figuring out who gets the ball last. Wednesday they are trying to win.

Indiana has Kelsey Mitchell and Boston backing Clark up — the trio combined for 73 of the Fever's 104 points against Dallas. But for this team to reach its ceiling, Clark has to make defenses respect her from deep. Plum's "selfish" crack was a joke. The version of Clark's 2026 where she defers too much, or shoots without conviction, is not.
