Magic fire Jamahl Mosley after blowing 3-1 to the Pistons
Jamahl Mosley is out in Orlando. The Magic fired him Monday — less than 24 hours after Detroit completed the 3-1 comeback and steamrolled them 116-94 in Game 7. Five seasons. 189-221. Three first-round exits. One blown 3-1 lead too many.
This was the season Orlando was supposed to compete for the East. They traded for Desmond Bane in the offseason. They had Paolo Banchero healthy and Franz Wagner taking the leap. They were the No. 1 seed for stretches. They blew it against a Pistons team that should have been a get-right opponent and now they're starting over.
Jeff Weltman says they're not blowing up the roster — Bane, Banchero, and Wagner aren't going anywhere. The job is to find a coach who can do something with that core that Mosley couldn't. The list will be long. The pressure on whoever takes it will be longer.
