Sweep watch in the East: Pistons going for 3-0 vs Cavs today, Knicks one win from the conference finals tomorrow
Two East series, two potential closeouts on the radar. The Detroit Pistons host the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 today at Little Caesars Arena trying to push to 3-0 in their semifinal. Cade Cunningham (25 and 10 in Game 2) has run the Pistons' offense like a Top-3 MVP candidate, with Tobias Harris (21 in Game 2) handling the secondary scoring. Cleveland is reeling — Donovan Mitchell has been good, the rest haven't shown up. Detroit's title odds moved to +1500.
Twenty-four hours later, the Knicks try to finish the Sixers. New York pulled away in Game 3 last night 108-94 (Brunson 33/9, Bridges 23, Hart 12/11) to take a 3-0 lead. Game 4 is Sunday at 3:30 PM ET at Xfinity Mobile Arena, and a win sends the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second straight year. Joel Embiid had 18 in Game 3 — well off what Philly needs from him to extend the series. Knicks are favored by 1.5.
If both close out, the East semis end this weekend with the Pistons and Knicks waiting on the Hawks/Magic and Cavs/Heat... wait, just the Pistons-Knicks ECF, the basketball gods are real.
