Knicks' OG Anunoby has hamstring strain, questionable for Game 3 in Philly
The Knicks' biggest playoff worry has a name. Shams Charania reported Thursday that OG Anunoby's leg issue is a right hamstring strain, and he's listed as day-to-day and questionable for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the 76ers on Friday at 7 PM ET in Philadelphia.
Anunoby has been New York's quiet engine in the postseason. He's averaging 21.4 points — second on the team behind Jalen Brunson — and he's the primary defender on Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers' lone reliable scorer with Joel Embiid in and out of the lineup. The Knicks went up 2-0 with a pair of 25+ point wins, including a 137-98 demolition in Game 1, but they can't expect that kind of cushion to hold against any team going home.
If he's out, Mikal Bridges slides up to the Maxey assignment and Josh Hart absorbs more wing minutes. Tom Thibodeau will get a final read at shootaround. The Knicks have not lost a game in this postseason yet — that streak is the storyline that gets tested if Anunoby can't go.
