PJ Tucker is done. The 41-year-old announced his NBA retirement Thursday after 19 pro seasons — 14 in the league, eight different franchises (Raptors, Suns, Rockets, Bucks, Heat, Sixers, Clippers, Knicks), one ring with the 2021 Bucks. "20 years being my job but 40-plus years of not being able to fathom doing anything other than it. So here's to retiring from the NBA… because I will NEVER stop ballin'."
One of the most distinctive role players of the modern era is calling it. PJ Tucker, 41, announced his NBA retirement Thursday on Instagram after 19 professional seasons — 14 of them in the NBA — closing the book on a career that started when the Toronto Raptors drafted him 35th overall in 2006.
Tucker bounced through eight NBA franchises: Raptors, Suns, Rockets, Bucks, Heat, Sixers, Clippers and most recently the Knicks. His peak came in 2020-21, where he was a starter and key defensive piece on the Bucks team that beat the Suns in six for the title — the same Suns franchise that traded him at the deadline that year. He spent more time guarding seven-footers than 6'5" guys ever should, and he wore the league's loudest sneaker collection while doing it.
His farewell quote: "20 years being my job but 40 plus years of not being able to fathom doing anything other than it. So here's to retiring from the NBA… because I will NEVER stop ballin'." Tucker entered free agency last summer after the Knicks declined his team option for 2025-26. He didn't sign anywhere this season. Now it's official. The hoodie-and-shorts king walks into retirement holding the all-time NBA record for "guy you didn't think could guard your favorite player but somehow did."
