Tina Charles retires — the WNBA's all-time leading rebounder

Tina Charles is done. The 37-year-old center announced her retirement Tuesday on social media, two days before the WNBA tips its 30th season. Fourteen years, 4,262 career rebounds — the most in league history — and 8,396 points, second only to Diana Taurasi.

The résumé reads like a Hall of Fame ballot. 2012 MVP. Eight-time All-Star. Three Olympic gold medals. Three FIBA World Cup titles. The career started in Connecticut after she went No. 1 overall to the Sun out of UConn in 2010, and last season she came home — 42 starts back in Connecticut, 16.3 and 5.8 at age 37.

The one missing line on her career page: a WNBA Finals appearance. Charles played for six teams over those 14 seasons and never reached the championship round. She leaves as the most prolific scorer-rebounder the league has ever produced — and on the eve of the W's biggest season ever.
