Tina Charles retires as WNBA's all-time leading rebounder

Tina Charles is done. After 14 WNBA seasons, the most decorated post player of her era walked away on the eve of the league's 30th anniversary season. She leaves as the all-time leading rebounder with 4,262 boards, the No. 2 all-time scorer behind Diana Taurasi with 8,396 points, and a career line of 17.8 / 9.0 across 473 games on 45% shooting.

The trophy case is absurd. Eight All-Star nods. Nine All-WNBA selections. Four rebounding titles. Two scoring crowns. The 2012 MVP after she led the league in both points and rebounds and dragged Connecticut into the playoffs. Three Olympic golds — 2012, 2016, 2020 — and three FIBA World Cup titles with USA Basketball. The only ring missing is a WNBA championship.

She came into the league as the No. 1 pick in 2010, won Rookie of the Year, and built a 14-year case as the gold standard at center before Wilson and Stewart took the torch. Charles never made the noise off the court that other stars did. She just rebounded everything. Then rebounded the rebounds. The W loses one of its all-time greats just as it gets its biggest season ever.
