Wembanyama drops 39/15/5 — joins Olajuwon, Shaq, Kareem in Spurs Game 3 win over Wolves
Victor Wembanyama just joined a club with three names on it. The 22-year-old dropped 39 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks on 72.2% shooting in San Antonio's 115-108 Game 3 win over Minnesota — only the fourth player in NBA history with a 35+/15+/5+ blocks line in a playoff game. The list before tonight: Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal (three times), and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (twice).
Wemby went 13-of-18 from the floor, hit 3-of-5 from three, committed just one turnover, and added a steal for good measure. He told reporters afterward he "had to resort to some things Hakeem taught me" in the fourth quarter — including a spinning fadeaway over Rudy Gobert that broke the game open. He scored or assisted on 18 of the Spurs' 29 fourth-quarter points.
The Spurs lead the series 2-1. Game 4 is Monday in Minneapolis. The kid is 22 years old, in his second postseason, pulling moves out of a Hakeem Olajuwon lecture series. He's not a prospect anymore. He's the alien.
