WNBA roster deadline day: 14 cuts in 48 hours, Magbegor out 6-8 weeks
Tonight at 5 PM ET, every WNBA team has to be at 12 players. The cuts are already brutal: 14 players waived across the league in the last 48 hours, including former first-rounder Hailey Van Lith (Sky → claimed by the Sun), 2026 second-round pick Marta Suárez (Valkyries → Mercury developmental contract), and 17 total roster moves over the wider weekend per Yahoo Sports' tracker. Even with the new CBA bumping the minimum roster to 12 (plus two developmental spots), every team is squeezing.
The injury report is just as ugly. Storm All-Star Ezi Magbegor will be out 6-8 weeks with a right foot injury suffered playing for Australia in the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers in Istanbul — at least 10 regular-season games gone. Valkyries guard Kate Martin is still working back from the Grade 2 right quad strain she picked up April 28, listed as day-to-day. Indiana's Kathryn Westbeld tore her right ACL overseas and is out for the season.
The season tips tomorrow. Some teams will open it without their best players.
