WNBA Rosters Lock Thursday — Madison Scott, Marta Suárez Among 17+ Players Cut
Cutdown day is the cruelest day in the W. Twelve roster spots per team, 15 teams, and a flood of preseason invites and rookies who never get to put on a real uniform. Rosters lock at 5 PM ET Thursday. The damage so far: 17+ players waived in the last 48 hours.
The most surprising cut: Marta Suárez, who the Golden State Valkyries traded for on draft night just three weeks ago — and who they just waived this week. The Spanish forward never made it past final cuts. Right behind her, the Washington Mystics waived Madison Scott, the No. 14 pick in the 2025 draft. Scott played 32 games last year. The Mystics cut her along with rookies Christeen Iwuala and Nyla Harris.
The Dallas Wings dropped six, including veteran guard Lindsay Allen and rookie Grace Berger. The Indiana Fever waived three guards — Megan McConnell, Jessica Timmons and Kayana Traylor — clearing the deck for their final 12. The Sky moved on from Hailey Van Lith earlier in the week (Connecticut promptly claimed her on waivers). The list keeps growing.
Some of these players land overseas. Some catch on in training camps next year. A few are done. The W is the hardest league in the world to make — only 144 jobs in the entire planet, plus a handful of hardship spots when injuries pile up.
